Methods for bio-gas processing

Scrubbing methods

Various technologies for gas processing already exist on the market. Others, including membrane technology, are in the development phase.

The most common methods are pressure water scrubbing and pressure swing adsorption, also called PSA. The industry has already worked with these methods for years in order to separate various gas mixtures. The processing of biogas is simply a new application.

Both pressure water scrubbing and pressure swing adsorption clean the gas mixture to be separated with physical mechanisms. With these it is generally possible to achieve gas purities of approx. 92 to 97 volume percent.

Another method for gas processing is chemical gas scrubbing. Here a chemical reaction takes place between the scrubbing liquid and the gas to be removed from a gas mixture. A virtually complete separation of the CO2 can be realized with this method. Currently, amine solutions such as monoethanolamine or diethanolamine are primarily used as scrubbing agents for processing biogas.
